Scotland is promoting a new song for people to do CPR to. The song is from the Proclaimers’ hit ” I’m gonna be (500 miles)”. This new initiative is re-highlighting the importance of learning and doing CPR on a casualty who is not breathing.
The campaign is part of a five-year plan to teach 500,000 Scots CPR and save 1,000 lives by 2020.
CPR is proven to increase the chance of survival following a cardiac arrest. BBC News – Scotland states that 3500 people are treated annually for cardiac arrest with a survival rate of only one in 13. Furthermore, for every 60 seconds this passes before CPR is performed, the chance of survival falls by 10%.
